TIME:
Whole meeting

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
To gain experience and confidence in presiding at a meeting.
To acquire leadership skills in planning, organisation and facilitation.

BEFORE THE MEETING

Choose a theme for the meeting and inform the Vice President of Education.
Look at end pages of CC and CL manuals for role description.
Find a project for the chairman's role in your Competent Leadership manual and read the project requirements.
Buy one or two gifts for the raffle.

DURING THE MEETING

After the president's introduction and he hands you the gavel, welcome people in the meeting and say you'll conduct the rest of the meeting seated.
Ask a question related to the theme for members to talk about for 20-30 seconds.
Follow the agenda and call on members to perform their roles and assignemnts.

After accepting apologies, say the following: "the motion before the meeting is that the apologies be accepted", "Any seconder?". "All those in favour say Aye". "Those against say Nay". "The Ayes have it".

During the business session, ask for the minutes and any reports. Follow the same procedure as for the apologies.
Also ask for correspondence in and out. The motion will then be 'received' or 'adopted' respectively.

At the end of the meeting select a member worthy of receiveing the Excellence Award.
