Lights: Green 5 minutes, Amber 6 minutes, Red 7 minutes
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
To prepare a speech with a purpose and a message targeted to the appropriate audience.
To plan, rehearse and deliver a speech using the suggested techniques explained in the manuals.
To gain communication and leadership skills.
BEFORE THE MEETING
Prepare your speech at least one week prior to the meeting.
Contact your VPE, Toastmaster and evaluator to give them the title and talk about your speech project.
Rehearse your speech with a timer for practice. Edit your speech to make sure you remain in the time limits.
DURING THE MEETING
At beginning of the meeting, give your manual to your evaluator.
Listen to the other speakers until you are called up by the Toastmaster.
When the Toastmaster calls your name, walk up near the lectern and wait for him to introduce you to the audience.
While speaking look around giving eye contact to members of the audience and keep an eye on the timing lights.
After your speech wait for the Toastmaster to return to the lectern.
During the evaluations listen to your assessment as well as the others to help you give better speeches.
AFTER THE MEETING
Get your manual from your evaulator and talk about your performance.
Ask the VPE to initial the Project Completion Record at the back of the manual.
